Introduction to Drawing is designed for kids beginning their journey into art. It’s a two-day class with just enough instruction each day to put kids at ease, without the overwhelming feeling of too much information! I try to create a fun, friendly environment, while covering topics such as shapes, light & shadow, sketching, shading and many other important fundamentals of drawing…the kind of info I wish I’d had when I was their age!

What they will need…

Each student will need to bring a sketch book no smaller than 9x12. Larger is optional, but not necessary, as it tends to take up too much space. Not to mention they cost more. 9x12 is a standard size, perfect for this class and easy to find at stores such as Michael’s, Hyatt’s and even Walmart. I will supply the rest. We will be using mostly pencils for this class. Having said that, if your child insists on bringing their own favorite pencil, make sure it’s an “HB” pencil, a standard lead great for almost any drawing application.

Things you need to know…

This class is designed for kids 6-12 years of age, but I have made exceptions in the past. In my experience, I have come across younger and older students with exceptional ability. In which case, I happily allowed them to join the class. But the problem becomes more about the pace of the class. Younger kids tend to work much slower, while older kids work faster, resulting in one falling behind and the other becoming bored. On the other hand, a group of 6-12 year olds work compatibly together and it becomes a much more pleasant learning experience for everyone…including me! So for the sake of the students, and the fact that seating is limited, I’m going to stick with this age group.

Space is limited to just 12 students for this class. Please contact me to check availability BEFORE making your payment. In the event of a full class, I will happily add your child’s name to a waiting list and notify you should space become available. Notifications will be subject to the order on the list in which your name was received.

As previously mentioned, space is limited. Which also means kids will be sitting in fairly close quarters during class. Please consider your child’s health, as well as that of other children that your child may come in contact with. Should your child’s health become a concern on the day of this event, please keep your child home to avoid putting other children at risk. A full refund will be issued.

Drop-off & Pick-up…

All kids must be dropped off and picked up by the same person. Please do not attempt to send someone else to pick-up your child without notifying me in advance. Please note I will not except text messages as an advance form of notification. Should you anticipate needing someone else to pick-up your child, please make those arrangements with me in advance either during drop-off or when registering your child for the class. Please be prepared to offer that person’s full name and their cell number. All participating kids should be dropped off and picked up at least 15 minutes prior to the start and end of each class.

Registration…

Registration is simple. First contact me prior to making your payment at 716 695-9443, or by email at info@torresart.com. I will need your child’s full name, age, as well as your full name, relationship to the child, address, email and cell number. Once I have all your info, I will be ready to accept your payment.

Payment…

The cost for this class is $75. My normal class rate is $30/hr. So at 90 minutes per day, the plan is to cram 3 sessions into one weekend. All payments must be made in advance. Most of my payment methods are now via Venmo or Cash App. I used to use PayPal, but considering Venmo is a PayPal company, I prefer to use that instead. Use the QR codes above, or find my accounts at either Venmo: @Carlos-Torres-Art or Cash App: $TorresArtStudio. I do not use Zelle.

I do accept checks, and of course cash, but they must be received well in advance. Please feel free to contact me to arrange for those forms of payment.
